If your organization has an identity management solution that offers self password reset and  password synchronization, the Pontis GINA can be linked to call into it.  Common solutions that offer this functionality are built around IBM's Tivoli Identity Manager,  Microsoft's Identity and Integration Server etc.  By linking the Pontis GINA to this module we   ensure that  users are directed to a single interface for setting up their challenge questions and responses and for resetting their passwords which can then be transparently synchronized across multiple platforms and applications.

Password Resets

It is well recognized that password resets form a large part of the typical workload of an organization's Help Desk staff.  If users can change their own passwords securely( in all other than exception conditions) this workload can be reduced, and this in turn will  significantly reduce the total cost of user administration.

Forgotten Passwords in Windows

Users forget their existing passwords all the time and the more passwords they have the more likely they are to forget them!  We have incorporated a "Forgotten Password" link in our custom Pontis GINA DLL which allows users to register questions and answers that can be used to authenticate them, in the event that  they forget their Windows password.  Once authenticated,  they can then reset their Windows password. This is particularly useful since it circumvents the entire issue of accessing a web portal when you cannot access your computer.
